PATNA: SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) on Monday organized a classical song programme on Birla Institute of Technology premises here.
With his soulful renditions, well-known Hindustani classicalvocalist Sarathi Chatterjee enthralled the audience. Chatterjee, who sang ragalalit, raga bhairavi and a religious song Bhajo Ram, laid emphasis on thechallenge of keeping the love for classical singing alive amongststudents.
Prior to starting the programme, Chatterjee expressed hisgrief over the death of legendary vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi andsaid: "Joshiji was a cult figure in the world of Hindustani classical music." Atwo-minute silence was also observed.
SPIC MACAY's three-day musicalevent will conclude on Tuesday, when the vocalist is scheduled to perform atCentral Schools located at Khagaul and Danapur.
"SPIC MACAY will beorganizing an event on January 31, for which noted 'sarangi' player Kamal Sabrihas been invited. On February 10, 'santoor' player Bhajan Sopori is alsoexpected to perform at different schools in the city," Barun Kumar Singh of SPICMACAY said.
